Give Them The Whole 9 Yards!

By Evan Sanders

Do you know where the phrase, "The whole 9 yards" came from?

In WWII, fighter pilots would have a machine gunner with a .50 caliber that had yards worth of ammunition. In periods of stress, the pilot would tell the gunner how many yards to give. However, when things really hit the fan, he would yell out "Give them the whole damn nine yards!?" These men were in survival mode and had to do everything they could to survive. They had to give it everything they had in order to stay alive.

How can we do this in life?

You have to give every day everything you have got. Leave no avenue unexplored and leave nothing in the tank. Give yourself the best chance at life and achieving your goals. Give it the whole damn 9 yards.

Everyone is a consequence of our repeated actions through time. We are the final tally of our decisions, habits, and choices of the paths we decide to walk. Therefore, if we are going to try to make an enormous change in life, we must change the things which lead us to arrive at this place.

You never can truly identify the boundaries of your possibilities until you travel into uncharted waters. At one point or another, you have got to leave the safeness of the harbour and take a grand journey. Frightening? Yes. Required? Hell yes.

It is so incredibly easy to be a beholder in your own life. We call this being up in the stands. Nonetheless to live a life you love you have got to get on the field and play in the game. For many, that suggests taking the hits and enjoying the daily scenarios and challenges that come along with it. The final choice to get on the field of life can be stupendously frightening to many who are nervous about going after what they truly love. But eventually, wih enough support and pressure from within, those frightened and shy souls will take the leap of faith and start their own journey in due time.

Give this life all that you've got. You only have one to live and you really don't know exactly what you are capable of. So chase perfection knowing you may never achieve it. At the end, you may understand that you achieved excellence instead.
